LAPD Air Support Unit's powerful pilot training program

Vertical magazine just published my article on LAPD’s pilot training program

Maybe because it has decades of experience behind it, LAPD’s training program is incredibly mission-focused. And, with four recurrents a year, their pilots are essentially always in training. As well, at the beginning of every shift they do a practice, touchdown auto.

Their accident rate shows how well the program works. LAPD’s last fatal accident was 20 years ago. And that’s with 14,000 annual flight hours. All of us who have ever met any of the Air Support team are proud of them.
